Add a character counter...

It's important to me that I keep the number of characters within the normal SMS limits-- or, at least, that I know how many characters I've used. Could you add a counter for the characters as we type them?

We would love to add this if we can make it work in a non-misleading way.

Here is the somewhat tricky part to handle in the user interface: Since Textie is always using a free email gateway to reach the phone (almost as if you emailed [email blocked] yourself) that "email" message has headers, like your name, that will take up an additional number of characters. Showing the character count might mislead the user into thinking 160 chars would fit.

But that doesn't excuse the real problem. Thanks for the feedback.

BTW, is there a way to get the regular iPhone Messages.app to show character count?

I don't know how the regular iPhone messages app works because I don't have an iPhone (I'm using Textie on an iPod Touch and on my iPad). What I do know is that some texting apps limit the characters to 140 (instead of 160) to allow for the headers. Actually, I really don't want my texts to be automatically limited to a certain number of characters-- but it would be helpful to see the count.
