Thread texts sent from Textie

Hey some of my friends have started to complain about getting texts via textie. Their concern is that when we text back and forth, each new text they receive is not threaded into their SMS app. For example, when I send a text via textie to my friend's iphone, she gets a text from a number not in her contact list, and each time I send her another text she gets a new text which does not thread into the old conversation. She is left to manually delete the texts so her message inbox is not cluttered. Can this be fixed?

I'm just some guy, not official support, but I don't see how this is possible (at least not easily). It would be better if your friend got Textie (if they have an iPhone). This issue seems to affect all free SMS programs.

All of my friends aren't going to get textie. My SMS need is not every person in my contact lists problem. If textie doesn’t work in the way that I need, ill either keep looking for another app, or I just go back to GV's online SMS app.

Again, I hope for your sake that there is a way around this but I think this issue happens because Textie (and any free SMS app) doesn't have access to the SMS gateway servers which are owned by AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon, etc and are closed systems. The only thing they can do is send a message that says "Here's a message from 555-555-1212: Hello World." They can't send it as if they ARE 555-555-1212 because they aren't.

I too would love to see threaded view come to the app soon if possible. My non-iPhone using friends do not like that the texts are coming through as different numbers. I know people are saying it can't be done but textplus allows it on their app. What's the difference?

Not sure if this is carrier specific or not but my brother is using the Droid Eris phone with Verizon and texts I send him from Textie are being threaded. They show my actual phone number and a textie.me email address that they are being sent under. Like I said not sure if this is something Verizon is doing or if it's the way the Android OS handles it itself but seems in some cases it will thread the texts for non Textie users.

Indeed, message formatting and threading is a real shortcoming of our free "Textie-to-U.S. phone" feature. As Ben was saying above, though, it's going to be hard for us to do something about that.

Our main focus with this app is the unparalleled Textie-to-Textie experience, and our target audience is primarily people who want a private iPhone-to-iPhone messaging system.

How our messages are presented when sent to U.S. mobile phones depends on the phone and carrier. In some cases it's not bad. In other cases it basically unusable. While some other texting apps try to ameliorate the user experience on SMS devices by sending messages from a single SMS "short code", that approach is much more expensive to run than our approach, and it is in many cases less functional and not even a better user experience. Both approaches are basically just hacks to reach SMS devices on the cheap. We offer our particular hack as a feature for those that want it, but we won't claim it's ever going to replace cross-device SMS wholesale.

I'm trying to think of a way we could make our marketing more clear that this is not going to be your regular style SMS-- hate to waste people's time if that is what they are needing. Any suggestions? Thanks for all the great comments and feedback in this thread.
